Headless Congressional Chickens Tax AIG Bonuses
The Bernie Madoff House of Representatives responded like the headless version of the Keystone Cops when it came to Main Street voters attention that $165 million of federal bailout funds (read tax payer money)was paid out in bonuses to AIG executives who had run that company into the ground. The compelte scope of the institutional and cultural rot in Congress was on full display when facts surfaced that the AIG bonuses were actually included and then approved by Congress in an earlier stimulus bill. In total panic mode, headless Congressional members ran for the tall grass, pointing chicken wings in all directions, and quickly passed legislation to tax the AIG bonuses at 90 percent. Whew!
Main Street voters should not allow themselves to be distracted from the arrogance, ineptitude and institutional corruption of incumbent Congressmen who legislated and promoted the financial environment that led to the Great Financial Meltdown of 2008. $165 million is a miniscule speck compared to the $170 billion log that Congress has already spent on AIG and the two trillion dollar forest of logs they have squandered trying to “fix” the very problems that they helped create. Main Street voters need to channel their anger in voting every single Congressional incumbent out of office in 2010.
